Hello Friends of the Bookstore -

Happy Fall! This is our favorite season. In addition to loving all the foliage, we have a great lineup of events in September, and our store's birthday is coming up in October! We’re looking forward to connecting with you this fall.

Before we get into all the exciting stuff (parties! events! writing workshops! sale!), we want to thank you, our community, for showing up for us last week. Our store was vandalized with homophobic and racist graffiti, BUT THEN, our community showed up in droves! You helped us paint a wonderful new mural (honoring the late Colorado poet laureate Andrea Gibson) and a beautiful door. Unbelievably, a rainbow even made an appearance above the shop as we were painting. Thank you to everyone who donated, showed up, and sent us words of encouragement. You really did turn a sad situation into something joyful, and we are so appreciative! This was a powerful act of community and really shows that we are so much stronger together. Keep Indies in Denver!

Celebrate our second birthday with us and help us keep our doors open for years to come!

We’re turning two and we want to celebrate with you! We also need your help.

The past two years have been wonderful. We’ve hosted countless events, author talks, open mics, and community events. We’ve come to build strong relationships with so many of you and we are forever grateful for the community we’ve built.

Although we’ve seen such a warm reception from our community (thank you!), with astronomical rent and very slim profit margins on books, it is just incredibly hard to cover our operating expenses and keep our doors open. We are also trying to open our coffee shop in the space, Sappho Coffee, which will not only help all of us stay caffeinated while we read and write, but in business as well! We are facing significant financial obstacles to complete the necessary work to open.

We are determined to stay in business though and won’t give up without a fight!

So, we are asking you to come to our birthday party to celebrate with us AND ensure that we can stick around another year!

Come join us for a night of celebrating literature, the arts, and small business in Denver. We’ll have themed cocktails (& mocktails!), flash tattoos, a photo booth, an epic birthday cake, a little bit of drag, and an incredible silent auction and raffle.

The Writer’s Corner

We have a ton of writing workshops coming up this fall, and due to their growing popularity, we’re going to be expanding our writing program (and space)! More information coming on that very soon. If you are writing instructor, and are interested in facilitating workshops or writing groups, please email: [email protected].

We love writers at Petals & Pages and have a writer’s corner where all are welcome anytime to sit and write. Check out some of our upcoming workshops, or just swing by to get some writing done surrounded by books.
